Hunter Wright

Junior Varsity Fresh/Soph Special Teams Coordinator

Coach Hunter Wright will be entering his second season this fall with Mount Vernon. Coach Wright is a senior at Cornell College. He is student teaching this fall at Mount Vernon High School.. He spent 2 years as a member of the Rams football program before making the decision to get into coaching. This will be his first season as Fresh/Soph and JV Special Teams coordinator.

Coach Wright is a 2019 Central DeWitt graduate. He was a two - time letter winner in football and one - time letter winner both in basketball and track. He was also a three - time academic letter winner. He was named to eight different all - academic district and WaMac teams. His senior year he was named to the 3A 1st team all state academic team by the Iowa Football Coaches Association. 

Coach Wright's senior year was filled with a lot of firsts for the Sabers in football and basketball. As captain of the football team, he helped the Sabers record their first winning season since 2012. He also helped the Sabers lead Class 3A in rushing that season. In basketball, he helped the Sabers win their first tournament game since 2014 when the Sabers beat Solon 52 - 47.

Coach Wright has a mom, Dawn and a sister, Emily.

I am very excited to get to work with the Mustang football program this season. The opportunity to work with young men, coaches, and coach football is an opportunity that not every college student is given. I look forward to seeing the impact that I will have on the young men that will come through the Mustang football program.
